The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction Monitor measures progress made by all countries on disaster risk reduction by the year 2030. It includes 38 indicators to track global progress in implementing the seven targets of the Framework and determine global trends in the reduction of risk and losses.
Global Framework Targets 2015-2030:
REDUCE:
- Disaster mortality
- People affected by disasters
- Direct disaster economic loss in relation to global gross domestic product and their associated indicators
- Disaster damage to critical infrastructure and disruption of basic services, health and educational facilities
INCREASE:
- Countries with national and local disaster risk reduction strategies
- International cooperation to developing countries through adequate and sustainable support to complement their national actions
- Availability of and access to multi‑hazard early warning systems and disaster risk information and assessments
Indicators are associated with each of the targets. The indicators will measure progress in achieving the global targets of the Sendai Framework, and determine global trends in the reduction of risk and losses.
What the monitoring says about disability and data:
The monitoring tool can be used to assess disability inclusion and to measure progress towards full inclusion throughout all disaster risk reduction initiatives. It includes key points for consideration while assessing and rating disability inclusion, included under 4 headings:
- Awareness
- Representation of persons with disabilities
- Understanding and responding to risk
- Implementation
A template for rating the key points can be found on pages 90-95 of “Disability Inclusion and Disaster Risk: Principles and guidance for implementing the Sendai Framework” (Source see below).
