Public space

Public space is important in any settlement and community, as it allows people to gather and meet, exchange and interact, as well as providing a resting area. Public spaces and resting areas are also good places to locate information boards. Some indications to make these public spaces open to everyone, and inclusive of women, men, girls and boys with disabilities:

  • Make sure the paths to public space are accessible and well indicated;
  • Make sure part of the public space is shaded and have resting areas with chairs or benches;
  • According to the local context, provide private space for women, if needed;
  • If public space is used for disseminating information, make sure it is provided in a way that everyone can understand and use it.
